Algeria claimed a place in the last 16 for the first time after Islam Slimani’s headed goal secured the
point they required to finish above Fabio Capello’s Russia.
Russia had to win to claim second place in Group H and Aleksandr Kokorin gave them the perfect start with a bullet header in the sixth minute.
Algeria equalised on the hour mark when the keeper failed to deal with a free kick and Slimani headed home from close range.
Congratulations Algeria as they join their fellow African counterpart Nigeria in the second round of the world cup.
