WoW ! Woman jailed for 11 years for beating 3yr old son to death & hiding his body in suitcase

A judge has blasted a mother who repeatedly punched her 3-year-old son until he died in an attack that ‘simply beggars belief’. Rosdeep Adekoya, 34,
has been jailed for 11 years for killing her son Mikaeel Kular, who she savagely beat then left to die for two days during a family holiday in January.

After discovering his lifeless body on the floor of their Edinburgh home in Ferry Gait Crescent, she wrapped it in a duvet cover, put it in the suitcase and drove to Kirkcaldy, Fife, to hide it in woodland.
Adekoya reported Mikaeel missing to police after stashing his body in remote woodland, sparking a major two-day search operation involving hundreds of local people and nation-wide coverage.

Now a prisoner at Cornton Vale jail near Stirling, she was initially charged with murder but last month pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of culpable homicide. She also admitted a charge of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by pretending to police her son had gone missing.

Passing sentence, judge Lord Glennie said a custodial sentence was inevitable in such a case and referred to the Crown acceptance that Adekoya had no intention to kill Mikaeel. But he went on: ‘Nevertheless, what you did was cruel and inexcusable.

‘Striking a child even once is bad enough. Striking him heavily and repeatedly with hand and fist when
he was being sick again and again simply beggars belief.

‘Mikaeel was by all accounts a healthy, happy little boy. By your actions, however unintended, you have not only robbed Mikaeel of his young life but left a gaping hole in the lives of all who loved him.’

The judge, who heard a plea for a significant discount to the sentence from Adekoya’s defence QC, said it is not clear precisely what triggered the events leading to Mikaeel’s death. Referring to the beatings the youngster received at
the hands of his mother, Lord Glennie told Adekoya her son was in severe pain shortly before he died.

But he said she was ‘not even aware that death was a possibility until it happened’. The judge said he accepted that Adekoya’s remorse is ‘genuine and heartfelt’. ‘You are clearly an intelligent and articulate young woman,’ he told her. ‘There is no history of violence by you towards any of your children.

That makes it all the more difficult to
understand your actions. I do not suppose that you really understand why you did what you did.’ The boy’s father pictured left Reports prepared for the case found that Adekoya suffered from depression for some time, particularly
in the last few months before Mikaeel’s death, as the single mother found herself ‘overwhelmed’ by her circumstances.

‘It is clear that the normal bond between mother and child simply failed to develop between you and Mikaeel, though it clearly developed with the other children,’ Lord Glennie added.
The judge also pointed to the large search for Mikaeel, involving the police, fire service, coastguard, mountain rescue teams, air support and hundreds of members of the public.

He said: ‘By your pretence that Mikaeel had gone missing you caused a massive manhunt to be undertaken, involving both the emergency services and the public. I accept that this was not planned and that you simply panicked when you realised that Mikaeel was dead. But this too… is a serious matter.’

She was jailed for 11 years when she returned to the High Court in Edinburgh for sentencing today. The court heard that Mikaeel died on the night of Tuesday January 14 from injuries inflicted the previous Sunday. His mother ‘lost her temper’ when he was repeatedly sick following a trip to a Nando’s restaurant at the city’s Fountain Park.

She smacked him and struck him on the body and head with a clenched fist, the court heard previously. When Mikaeel was sick for a third time, she dragged
him to the shower by his arms and ‘beat him heavily’ on his back as he lay over the bath edge.

Over the next few days Mikaeel’s condition worsened and he was kept off nursery. He was assaulted again on the Monday after being sick and became ‘listless’, but his mother did not take him to a doctor because of the bruising.
By Tuesday night, Mikaeel was said to be ‘quiet’ and was giving a ‘limited’ response to his mother’s questions.

Shockingly, it has emerged she trawled the internet with searches such as ‘I find it hard to love my son’ and ‘get rid of bruises’ in the months leading up to
his death. Advocate depute Alex Prentice, prosecuting, told the court: ‘He would have been in significant pain but
was put to bed.

‘The pain would have increased significantly while Mikaeel became dangerously ill and finally dying as a
result of the injuries inflicted upon him by the accused.’ After discovering her son’s body, Adekoya put it in a suitcase which she carried to the boot of her car,
before taking his twin sister to nursery.
She left the case in woodland behind her sister’s house in Dunvegan Avenue, Kirkcaldy, covering it with branches.

But mobile telephone masts recorded the 34-year- old’s journey across the Forth Road Bridge, undermining her statements to police about her whereabouts. She eventually broke down and took officers to his body.
The final cause of Mikaeel’s death was found to be ‘blunt force abdominal trauma’ and the court heard he had more than 40 separate injuries to his body.

WoW ! Liberian Doctor Who Received Rare Ebola Drug Zmapp Dies

One of three African doctors infected with Ebola and treated with the experimental drug ZMapp has died in Monrovia, Liberian Information Minister Lewis Brown said on Monday.

Liberia, the West African country where Ebola is spreading fastest, received three doses of the rare treatment on August 13. Initially, Liberia said the three doctors, Zukunis Ireland and Abraham Borbor from Liberia and Dr.

Aroh Cosmos Izchukwu from Nigeria, were responding well to the treatment, raising optimism about the experimental therapy. Asked to confirm the death of doctor Borbor,
Brown said: “That is correct. He died yesterday.”

Two U.S. aid workers who caught Ebola in Liberia were declared free of the virus and released from an Atlanta hospital last week after receiving the same treatment.

But a Spanish priest who received ZMapp died. The drug’s U.S.-based manufacturer, Mapp Biopharmaceutical, says limited supplies have already been exhausted and producing more will take time.

There are other drugs in the pipeline but all are unproven and have yet to clear even the earliest stage of clinical trials.
The hemorrhagic fever has killed at least 1,427 people in the deadliest outbreak of the disease to date.

In the week through to August 22, 297 new suspected, probable and confirmed cases of Ebola were reported in Liberia – the largest number of weekly cases since the epidemic began in March, according to a United Nations Children’s Fund report.

Ebola can kill up to 90 percent of those infected though the fatality rate in the current epidemic is around 60 percent

WoW ! Northern California rocked by magnitude 6.0 earthquake

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit Northern California near Napa Valley Sunday, injuring at least 172 people and causing extensive damage, including fires sparked by burst gas lines, in the
largest tremor to rock the Bay Area since the magnitude 6.9 Loma Prieta quake in 1989.

Leslie Gordon of the U.S. Geological Survey says the tremor struck just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday local time about 10 miles northwest of American Canyon, which is about 6 miles southwest of Napa.

Of the 172 patients admitted to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, 13 were admitted to the hospital with broken bones and respiratory or cardiac conditions, while the rest were treated and released for less severe injuries, hospital president Walt Mickens said at a news conference Sunday evening.

Only one patient remains in the hospital in critical condition while another, a 13-year-old boy, was airlifted to another trauma center in critical condition after pieces of the fireplace at his home collapsed onto him, Mickens said. The boy is now listed in serious condition.

The most common injuries were from household items falling off of walls or shelves onto people or from those who stepped on debris in their homes, he said. Mickens announced earlier Sunday that 120 people had been treated at the hospital, but that number rose as dozens of people got injured while cleaning up after the quake, he said.

Napa City Manager Mike Parness said the city declared a local emergency at 8:59 a.m. California time, which is the first step in getting more help from the state.
Pacific Gas & Electric spokesman J.D. Guidi told KTVU that 7,300 customers were without power Sunday evening and said the utility hoped to have power restored to all customers by Monday
morning.

Guidi said that approximately 70,000
customers in Sonoma and Napa counties lost power during the earthquake. Mark Ghilarducci, director of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, said about 90 to 100 homes were deemed not habitable. He said the next step was to continue damage assessments and get a cost estimate for potential federal assistance.

Officials said they were still assessing buildings in the area. A Red Cross evacuation center was set up at a high
school, and crews were assessing damage to homes and roadways. Authorities said Sunday evening that all bridges responded well to the earthquake.

John Callahan of the Napa City Fire Department said at one point Sunday there were a half-dozen multiple structure fires. One was at a mobile home park where four mobile homes have been destroyed by fire, and two others suffered major damage. Public Works Director Jack LaRochelle assured residents the water has not been contaminated.

“The water is safe to drink,” he said. LaRochelle said that more than 60 water mains have been damaged; 20 have been turned off. He said none of the larger transmission lines had been damaged. Napa Fire Chief Mike Randolph said firefighters were continuing to assess the damage to buildings in the downtown area, and the department was
busy answering more than 100 calls reporting the smell of natural gas.

That’s “our primary attention right now,” he said. A number of buildings are damaged during the quake, but no number on how many was reported.
The city’s 911 emergency call system was maxed out, according to Napa Police Department operations captain Steve Potter, but he said there have been no reports of major disturbances. “We
have relative calm for this magnitude of an earthquake,” he said.

Jennifer Jones Lee, who lives in the earthquake area, told Fox News the tremor “felt like someone just picked up the house, shook it for a while, then dropped it. It was incredibly violent.”
Arik Housley, who owns two grocery stores in the area, said he was awakened at about 3:30 a.m. by the shaking.

“It was very jolting and probably went
for 20 seconds . . . it was shaking pretty good,” said Housley, whose brother is Fox News senior correspondent Adam Housley. Arik Housley said he passed a mobile home park where multiple fires could be seen as he drove to one of his stores to assess the damage. Housley
said the shelving in his store had moved 2 feet to 3 feet from the wall, and much of his inventory had fallen to the floor, including $200 bottles of wine.

Many merchants in the area forgo earthquake insurance because it’s too expensive, he said. A quake about 14 years ago resulted in about $30,000 in damage, he told Fox News, and speculated the current damage would be in excess of $100,000.

“There’s collapses, fires,” said Napa Fire Capt. Doug Bridewell, standing in front of large pieces of masonry that broke loose from a turn-of-the- century office building where a fire had just been extinguished.
“That’s the worst shaking I’ve ever been in.”

Bridewell said he had to climb over fallen furniture in his own home to check on his family before reporting to duty. The tremor set off car alarms and had residents of neighboring Sonoma County running out of their houses in the middle of night. The USGS says the depth of the earthquake was just less than 7 miles, and numerous small aftershocks have occurred in the Napa wine country.

Aftershocks were expected to continue for several weeks, though State Geologist John Parrish said they would decrease in magnitude and it was unlikely that there would be a large follow-up earthquake. Still, he warned people to be careful because buildings that were damaged by the quake were now more susceptible to collapse from
aftershocks.

“There’s fires, debris all over the streets,
everywhere,” Napa resident Karen Hunt earlier told “Fox & Friends.” Hunt said her husband, who is an engineer, shut
off the gas line to their home to guard against explosions, then went to neighbors’ homes to do the same.

“Right now we’re just waiting for the aftershocks,” she said. She said she had not felt any, but reportedly there have been two, one at magnitude 2.5. Hunt has said she has felt other earthquakes, but “this is way on top of anything I’ve ever felt.”

Hunt, who has lived in Napa since 1996, owns a winery. She said she heard from her partner that her 2011 and 2012 vintages had been destroyed.

“That’s pretty devastating if that’s the case,” she said. Sunday’s quake was felt widely throughout the region. People reported feeling it more than 200 miles south of Napa and as far east as the Nevada border. Amtrak suspended its train service through the Bay Area so tracks could be inspected.

California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Bartlett said cracks and damage to pavement closed the westbound Interstate 80 connector to westbound
State Route 37 in Vallejo and westbound State Route 37 at the Sonoma off ramp. He said there hadn’t been reports of injuries or people stranded in their cars, but there were numerous cases of flat
tires from motorists driving over damaged roads.

Thousands of small earthquakes occur in
California each year, providing scientists with clear indications of places where faults cut the Earth’s crust. There were 4,895 earthquakes in California between 1974 and 2003 with a magnitude of 3.5 or greater (about 163 per year).

WoW ! Boko Haram declares Gwoza ‘Islamic Caliphate’ including Excerpts of the transcribed speech by Shekau

In a 52 minute video made available to AFP, the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, declared the creation of an Islamic caliphate in Gwoza town in Borno state seized by the sect early this month.

According to AFP, Shekau declared that Gwoza now has ‘nothing to do with Nigeria’.

“Thanks be to Allah who gave victory to our brethren in (the town of) Gwoza and made it part of the Islamic caliphate. By the grace of Allah we will not leave the town. We have come to stay,”
said Shekau

Find the excerpts of the transcribed speech by Shekau after the cut. Meanwhile the Nigerian Military has reacted to Shekau’s claims, saying the claim is empty. The military says appropriate military operations to secure Gwoza from activities of the bandits is still ongoing.

Excerpts of the transcribed speech by Mr. Shekau

“I chose to deliver this message
in order to refute the lies being spread by the government, about the operations we had in recent times.

“We warn the vigilantes called civilian JTF to back off; if not, there will be no place for them to hide. We have evidence of how you killed some of our
brethren whom you would ask if they were Boko Haram members before you killed them. We know how you humiliated them by asking them if they
had ever carried guns or killed someone…

We know everything about the evil you committed against our brethren.

“We still have the magnanimity of asking you to repent because you will never succeed in this way by the grace of Allah. And I swear by Allah that we will never stop killing you, because Allah
commanded us to kill people like you. If we pity you and spare you, one day you will become infidels. So, to us, having pity on you is an act of disbelief. You can continue to run or hide your identities in women’s attire, but we will get to you
and remove the women’s clothing off of you.

Then, while you are shouting for mercy, we will strike, smash your heads and kill you all. Even if you don’t do anything to us we will kill you. We would do it even to avenge our brethren. You killed our brethren in large numbers.

“We don’t joke with religion (quoting from the Koran). There is no hypocrisy in this religion. It is only the truth.

“We are not proud of our strength, nor with our weapons nor with anything we have but we are only proud of victory from Allah the exalted. Victory is only from God. Who is America in the sight of Allah? Who is America in the sight of
Allah? Who is Israel in the sight of Allah? Who is France in the sight of Allah?”
