Nigerian military releases detained Acclaimed Russian Cargo plane

The Nigerian military has finally released the detained Russian cargo plane which they seized yesterday morning after France admitted ownership of the aircraft.

It said that the flight was covered by a diplomatic clearance given by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, noting that the Autonov 124 Russian commercial plane was forced to land at the Kano airport because of dense air traffic at Ndjamena airport, Chad.

A statement from the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Jacques Champagne de Labriolle, on Sunday, stated that the Antonov plane had to divert to an alternate international airport and the closest airport facility being Kano, the Russian crew decided to fly there, to refuel, and to take off again to reach Njamena Airport.

He denied that the plane was carrying arms and ammunition, stressing that it was conveying two light Gazelle helicopters, spare parts and maintenance items belonging to the French Army.
Labriolle further explained that due to the nationality of the aircraft, and the nature of the cargo, airport authorities in Kano, decided to check the flight plan, the clearance and the cargo manifest before authorizing the plane to leave.

WoW ! Female Suicide Bombing: Catholic Sisters’ Attires Stolen

The Department of State of State Service, DSS has raised the alarm that at least 13 pieces of Reverend Sisters’ regalia of the Catholic Church have been stolen from a shop in Kano state purportedly for suicide bombing.

A statement from the deputy director,
information of the SSS, Marilyn Ogar, made available to LEADERSHIP Weekend advised Nigerians to look out for persons, especially female suicide bombers who may disguise in the attire

The statement reads in parts, “On 20th
August, 2014, about 0400 hours, some yet to be identified persons broke into a tailoring shop located at No.55 Odutola Street, Sabon Gari, Kano, and stole about thirteen (13) pieces of Reverend Sisters’ regalia of the Catholic Church.

With the recent trend in female suicide bombings in the country, the removal of these regalia may be the handiwork of terrorists’ elements that may want to perpetrate acts of terror using such
garments.

“Consequently, this Service has taken
necessary pre-emptive measures to thwart the exploitation of distinct religious wears for terrorist purposes. We also wish to draw public attention to this development and call on all citizens to be more circumspect and exercise greater vigilance with users of such peculiar attires.

“We enjoin all and sundry to continue to
cooperate with law enforcement agencies through the provision of useful information on suspicious activities within their immediate environment.

This Service will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders as we strive to keep our country safe.”

WoW ! Man detained in mental institute in Kano for saying there is no God

Mubarak Bala has been held up at a mental institute in Kano state since June 13th despite being given a clean bill of health because he declared he does not believe in God. According to the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) Bala is being held against his will and forcibly medicated at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he has been kept since June 13.

The chemical engineering graduate is allegedly being held on the grounds of a “personality change” because he declared himself an atheist despite being raised in a Muslim family in Kano, which is a mainly Muslim state.
The organisation says that when Mr Bala told his family he did not believe in God, they took him to a doctor and asked if he was mentally ill.

When this doctor found him to be fit and well, the family are then believed to have taken him to a second doctor who claimed he was suffering with a personality disorder. The family allegedly told this doctor he also made delusional claims that he was a “governor” and other “trivial lies”.

The 29-year-old managed to raise the alarm that he was being held in emails and tweets sent to activists from a smartphone smuggled into the facility and the IHEU said a Lagos-based group has asked a lawyer to take up his case.

In one of the emails, he wrote: “And the biggest evidence of my mental illness was large blasphemies and denial of ‘history’ of Adam, and apostasy, to which the doctor said was a personality change, that everyone needs a God, that even in Japan they have a God. And my brother added that all the atheists I see have had mental illness at some point in their life.” The IHEU is “deeply concerned” about Mr Bala’s welfare and violations of his human rights.

IHEU spokesman Bob Churchill said: “It appears that a warped notion of family honour is the motivation to pressure Mubarak in this appalling manner, to conform to religious views that he simply doesn’t hold. This is an abhorrent violation of his freedom of thought and belief.

“We are joining with humanists and human rights advocates in Nigeria and the activists who have worked to highlight this case, in calling for an immediate re-evaluation of Mubarak’s case by a doctor who is entirely independent of the family, and for his swift release.”

The son of Son of Inspector General of Police Jamil Abubakar tweet , riot has broken out in Kano state following the announcement of former
CBN governor Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the
new Emir of Kano. According to his tweets, Jamil says
the people of Kano are not happy with the
announcement and are causing trouble in the town.
He however says the situation has been brought
under control and no life was lost.
We hope calmness is reinstated to Kano state and congratulation to the former CBN governor Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
