An Indian man once said “If you walk in the street of Lagos you will pick Dollars on the floor”, the Indian man doesn’t literally mean you will pick physical cash on the floor of street of Lagos, he simply means opportunities are abound in Lagos. I want to introduce an elderly woman who makes her little money doing the work of the Lagos state Waste Management   (LAWMA), every morning you will find this woman sweeping the highway of Thomas Owode Ajegunle Ikorodu road high.

She sweeps the high ways , not minding her old age and the high risk the work entails she goes ahead to gather the fine sand collected from the Lagos high way and store them in bags to sell. Instead of subjecting herself to begging, this diligent old lady device a means of survival the hard way not minding how little she earns and at the same time she is indirectly serving the Lagos road commuters by making the road clean. If this old lady could be doing this to survive shame be upon any young able man begging or stealing for survival. If you only open your eyes to the overwhelming opportunities surrounding you, solve problems, make life easier and be smart enough to transform it into income like the poor old lady.

WoW ! South African victims’ relations vow to sue TB Joshua, LASG begin DNA identification test

Thanduxolo Doro and Mpho Molebatsi, two South Africans who both lost their sisters at the Synagogue building collapse on September 12th have vowed to drag pastor T.B.Joshua to court for what they describe as negligence on the part of the church for not allowing rescue workers help save the victims
after the collapse as well as withholding information after the unfortunate incident.

The South Africans who were guests on a BBC programme this week said they are calling on other family members to come forward so that they can unanimously press charges against T.B. Joshua

“I understand that some families are afraid to take on someone who purports to be God’s messenger and I don’t blame them but I will do this. It is not that the building collapsed, rather what was done
after the collapse. We didn’t get any news from the church. When I contacted them they wouldn’t tell me anything. We saw reports that emergency workers were denied access initially, access that
could have saved lives. The actions of the church after the incident are very telling,”

Doro, whose sister Vathiswa Madikiza died said Doro has since published an open letter in a South African daily calling on more families to come forward so they can all sue T.B. Joshua, “I need to do this for her. Even if I stand alone, I
am determined to see that something is done” he said

In a related development, the Lagos state government today announced the commencement of the DNA identification test of the 115 dead bodies
brought out from the collapsed building.
While announcing this, Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris called on families who lost loved ones to come forward with DNA samples so that the bodies
can be properly identified and released to them for proper burial.

He said loved ones of the dead victims
are to visit the Department of Forensic Medicine at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital(LASUTH) from today to submit samples that could aid the forensic identification and DNA analysis of recovered bodies. He said only children, parents and siblings of the deceased are eligible to submit samples.

The Lagos state government today September 26th also constituted a coroner inquest that will investigate the real reason the building collapsed.
The Lagos state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Ade Ipaye in a statement said Magistrate O.A.Komolafe who headed the Dana Air crash case will be heading the coroner inquest.

WoW ! Liberian woman found hanging in Lagos

Earlier today I shared a pic here of a suspected suicide victim in the Magodo area of Lagos. The woman found hanging from the tree in the early hours of today September 12th on Bankole Street, Isheri-Oke, Lagos has been identified as a Liberian woman simply called Kate.

According to Punch, the woman was a worker in a sachet water factory before she killed herself. A resident of the area said people in the area started to distance themselves from her after the outbreak of Ebola in Lagos which was brought into the country by a Liberian.

They also started avoiding her because of her ill health, a situation believed to have frustrated her enough to commit suicide. One the eye witness reports….

“We see her in this neighborhood every day. I used to see her every day in the dress she died in. She always looked sick but people stopped selling to her after the Ebola outbreak. It could be because she was Liberian and looked sickly. This
might have frustrated her.”

WoW ! Ebola: West-African Nations Approach Lagos For Help

Some West African countries where Ebola Virus Disease is currently spreading have contacted the Lagos State Government for assistance on how to contain the deadly virus.

The Deputy Director, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Omowunmi George, who stated this in Lagos, also noted that the survival rate of the detected and quarantined victims in Lagos had been the highest among areas so far afflicted with the virus.

She spoke at an Ebola awareness campaign in Ikorodu. George said out of 15 confirmed cases in Lagos, only five had died and virtually others had been
assisted to overcome.

She said, “What we did was to get everybody on duty at the airport when Sawyer came in; we got their numbers and contacted them; brought them
a thermometer each to start monitoring their temperature; surely, their temperature will go up.

“Immediately they reported high temperature, they would be picked up and quarantined to prevent them from having any contact with other people.”

She explained that it was easy to assist those who reported early to get over the problem and urged people to call the Ebola helpline once they suspected or saw anybody showing Ebola symptoms.
