WoW ! Nigerian Army Confirms Shekau Is Dead Boko-Haram Leader

Just like the saying goes ” you can run but you cannot hide” finally the nemesis of the law has caught up with the dreaded leader of the notorious Boko haram terrorist militant Islamic sect.

The Defence Headquarters has insisted that it has killed Abubakar Shekau in a recent raid, in Konduga and that as a result, many of the Boko Haram foot
soldiers have surrendered and laid down their weapons.

In a statements issued by the Defence Information Spokesperson, Maj. Gen . Chris Olukolade, the Army commended its men for their gallantry even in the
face of extreme confrontation by the insurgents.

It further confirmed that on the 2 and 17 September 2014, the insurgents attempted to violate the security in the region and tried to enter Konduga to
perpetrate their atrocities.

It said that with Air and land forces deployed to handle the situation, the convoy of combat vehicles typical of terrorists’ mission that involves their top commanders, were fiercely engaged, where ”several of the terrorists including some of their commanders lost their lives in encounters which lasted an average of about 5 hours each. ”

The statement said the troops captured some of the terrorists and their equipment and as well killed Shekau. It said; ”In the course of those encounters,
one Mohammed Bashir who has been acting or posing on videos as the deceased Abubakar Shekau, the eccentric character known as leader of the group died.

Since the name Shekau has become a
brand name for the terrorists’ leader, the Nigerian military remains resolute to serve justice to anyone who assumes that designation or title as well as all terrorists that seek to violate the freedom and territory of Nigeria,”the military warned.

The Defence Headquarters applauds the gallantry of the Nigerian troops who have remained undaunted and professional in prosecuting this campaign against terror. The keen interest exhibited by our neighbours and allies is commendable and we appreciate them. All allies in the war against terrorism are hereby assured of the Nigerian military’s resolve to maintain
momentum in the efforts to decimate and defeat terrorists. The invaluable efforts toward achieving sustainable peace and victory against the terrorists are highly appreciated.

Statement signed by Defence spokesperson, Maj. Gen Chris Olukayode

WoW ! The 12 soldiers who attacked their GOC in Maiduguri have been sentenced to death

13 out of the 18 soldiers standing trial for participating in the mutiny (revolt action) against their General Officer Commanding, Maj. Gen. Ahmed Mohammed at the newly created 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri on May 12th have been
sentenced to death by a military court that sat in Abuja yesterday night September 15th.

Five others were discharged and acquitted while one was jailed for 28 days with hard labor. Well they should temper justice with mercy. The soldiers had on May 14th revolted against poor
remuneration and lack of sophisticated weapons to fight Boko Haram. On that particular day, the soldiers lost their cool after seeing the corpse of some of their colleagues killed by Boko Haram men.

They immediately opened fire on their GOC, who luckily escaped unhurt.
The President of the Court Martial (military court), Maj. Gen. C.C. Okonkwo, while delivering his judgement said the 12 soldiers were found guilty of criminal conspiracy, mutiny, attempt to commit
murder (shooting at the vehicle of the GOC); insubordination to a particular order; insubordination and false accusation.

Those sentenced are Jasper Braidolor, David Musa, Friday Onuh, Yusuf Shuaibu, Igonmu Emmanuel, Andrew Ugbede, Nurudeen Ahmed, Ifeanyi Alukagba,
Alao Samuel, Amadi Chukwuma, Alan Linus, and Stephen Clement.

The legal team of the convicts pleaded with the court martial to be lenient and temper justice with mercy stating that some of the men convicted were the sole providers of their families. One of the convict is said to be the only child of his 80 year old mother while another is said to be the father of a 5-month old
baby.

The legal team argued that giving them
maximum sentence would do more harm than good, adding that it would increase the agony of their dependants. Other members of the court are: Col. TS Nurseman, Col. TO Olowomeye, Col. IG Lassa, Lt.Col. JK Feboke, Lt. Col. CR Nnebeife, Major I Yusuf, Major TA Yakubu
and Major AE Martins. Lt. Col. AA Audu and Lt. Col. U Ukpe served as prosecutors.

WoW ! Snakes and bees ‘flush out’ Boko Haram fighters

The Nigerian Army is struggling to flush Boko Haram Islamist fighters out of their forest fastness, but it seems snakes may be doing the job for them. Two suspected Boko Haram gunmen captured by local volunteers in Maiduguri, northeastern Nigeria, said they had fled the Sambisa Forest because of “incessant snake bites”, the Vanguard newspaper reports.

One of the suspects, Kolo Mustapha, said bees have also been known to join in the attacks, often leaving their victims fatally injured. Some of his fellow- fighters think there is a supernatural aspect to the attacks, fearing that Boko Haram’s victims are wreaking vengeance on their killers. Mustapha said he was caught because, like many others, he was trying to sneak back into town “as we have nowhere else to go”. “Our leaders have fled to Cameroon,” he added, saying they had forced local youths to join the group.

The other captive, Umar Abor, said “almost all our comrades are leaving the Sambisa because of constant attacks by snakes and bees”. Many accuse Boko Haram leaders of having brought the plague upon themselves by kidnapping and killing civilians.

The Civilian JTF volunteers agree that fighters have been fleeing the forest in growing numbers over the past two weeks, and were helping the security forces find weapons caches.
